Should I Upgrade My GPU or Build a New PC?

I'm using a 6-year-old setup with an Nvidia RTX 3060 12GB and a Ryzen 7 2700X. I mostly enjoy AAA single-player games, as well as Rocket League and CS2, all on a 1440p 180Hz monitor. My problem is that my current GPU runs really hot (83°C) and noisy, so I tried to upgrade to an RTX 5060 Ti. Unfortunately, I found out that AM4 motherboards might not have great compatibility with that card.

Now, I'm caught between upgrading to an AMD GPU like the RX 9070 with my existing build, which might run into bottleneck issues with the AM4 setup, or considering a whole new build with a budget of about 1500€. What do you all recommend?

Staying on AM4 would require a CPU upgrade, as the 2700X can limit performance, especially with your monitor's refresh rate. If you can't snag a 5700X3D for cheap, I'd suggest moving to AM5 for a more future-proof setup. You can reuse your existing parts like the PSU, case, and potentially even your cooler. For GPUs, the same suggestions apply: 5060 Ti, 9060 XT, or 9070 if you're aiming for high-quality gaming.

If you're considering sticking with AM4, think about upgrading to a Ryzen 5700X or 5800X, but the 2700X might still hold you back in many games. A better choice might be to move to AM5 with a 7600 or 9600, paired with a B650 board and 32GB of DDR5 RAM. As for GPUs, the 5060 Ti or 9060 XT would work well, but the 9070 is definitely a good fit for 1440p gaming.

You can actually fit the RTX 5060 Ti into your setup without issues, despite what you've heard. However, with a €1500 budget, you could easily put together a solid build with an RX 9070 on an AM5 platform. I'd recommend checking out the /r/buildapcforme subreddit for guidance!
