Should I Upgrade My GPU or Monitor First?

I'm currently using a 24" 1080p monitor with an RTX 3060. I'm debating whether to upgrade my GPU or get a new monitor first. Here are my options: I can get an RTX 3080 for about 350€ (around 150€ after selling my current GPU) or an RTX 3070 TI for around 280€ (80€ after selling my current one). I'm also considering a 24" 1440p Mini LED IPS monitor for about 220€ (around 130€ after selling my current one). Additionally, I'm curious about how 1080p content looks on my setup. I mostly watch YouTube at 1080p but in theater mode, so technically I'm viewing it on a smaller scale. What do you think I should prioritize?

YouTube videos don’t need an expensive card; a decent GPU works just fine as long as you've got good internet. But if you’re gaming, upgrading to the 3080 makes sense for future-proofing, especially if you play more demanding titles. Keep an eye on the VRAM, since the 3080 has more than the 3070 Ti.

A 1440p resolution on a 24" monitor isn’t ideal; you’ll end up scaling everything up to read text properly. If your current monitor runs at only 60Hz, definitely prioritize getting an upgrade there. Otherwise, I'd suggest the 3080, especially if you play games that can take advantage of the added power.

Honestly, I say go for the 3080! Playing at 1080p on a 24" is fine, especially compared to a 1440p monitor, which might only shine when side by side.

My son has a 3070 Ti on a 27" 1440p monitor, and it runs smoothly with settings around medium to high. Just keep that in mind!

GPU supply is limited, prices might go up, so getting a better display now might not be a bad choice. In the long run, a solid GPU will enhance your gaming experience. You might find good deals on monitors later.

I’d go with the GPU first! If you're aiming for 1440p, I suggest getting a 27" monitor for a better experience, especially at higher refresh rates. It'll be worth it if you plan to game.

I totally get that! 27 inches can feel overwhelming for some—it's all about what feels comfortable for you.
