I'm looking to transition from gaming at 1440p to 4K and I'm considering an upgrade from an RTX 3070 to either a 5070 Ti or possibly a 5080. My current setup includes an Asus ROG Z590 E motherboard, Intel Core i7 11700k CPU, and an ASUS ROG Thor 850P power supply, which doesn't have the 12V HPWR cable. Should I upgrade my GPU first or replace my power supply? What do you all think?

You might want to think about returning the Thor PSU. Just because it costs more doesn’t mean it's the best option. I'd suggest something like a Montech Century II in 850W or 1050W. The RTX 5080 would be the ideal choice for 4K, but the 5070 Ti is a solid entry-level option if you're on a budget.
Check the specs of your new GPU; it might come with an adapter for the power cable. Make sure to look at its box description to confirm what’s included.
If you're considering price-to-performance, look at the 9070XT. It offers similar performance but at a lower cost and doesn't require a 12V HPWR cable.

I hear you on the return part; I also found it tricky to flip gear like that. Good luck with your choice!
