I'm debating whether I should upgrade my current setup or just go for a completely new build. I'm looking to upgrade my CPU and GPU because my computer is really struggling with newer games. The problem is that my motherboard only supports Intel CPUs, which limits my options. Here's my current setup for context:
- Motherboard: B460M Pro-VDH WIFI
- GPU: MSI Geforce GTX 1660 TI
- CPU: Intel i7-10700F 2.9GHz
- RAM: ZADAK 2x8 GB
- CPU Cooling: Deep Cool Theta 20
If anyone has suggestions on possible upgrades or thinks I should just bite the bullet and build a new one, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

What’s your budget looking like? Your CPU is a bit outdated, and with the socket being discontinued, upgrading can be tough. If you haven't yet, think about getting an SSD or boosting your RAM to 32GB, but keep in mind your motherboard is really limiting you right now.
I’d suggest starting with a new GPU. The 1660 TI doesn’t quite match up with your i7-10700F, so an upgrade there might be all you need for better performance.
Your motherboard only supports CPUs that are around 5 years old. If you want to get something newer, you pretty much have to start fresh.
Honestly, if you can get around $1,200 for a new build, I say go for it! If not, unfortunately, sticking with your current setup might be the best option until you can save up more. Here’s an example of a decent build for $1,150 that handles 1440p gaming nicely. Just remember, if you do have more budget, a better GPU would definitely help!
I’d lean towards a new build. Intel doesn’t really have a great track record when it comes to upgrade paths.
Look for a used 30/40 series GPU, or make a smart choice on a new card. Just keep in mind, if you plan to upgrade your CPU later, it’s better not to sink too much into your current platform. A new CPU, motherboard, and RAM might be the way to go.
Thank you, this helps!!
