Should I upgrade to 1440p or get a new CPU first?

I currently have a Ryzen 5 5600 along with an RTX 3080 and I'm using a 1080p monitor. I'm aware that my CPU isn't fully utilizing the power of my GPU. My goal is to strike a better balance between visuals and framerate. I'm deciding between two options: 1) Upgrade to a Ryzen 5 7500F, which would also require a new AM5 motherboard and DDR5 RAM, then buy a 1440p monitor in about two months. 2) Keep my Ryzen 5 5600 and just purchase a 1440p monitor right away to let my GPU do more work. Do you think moving to 1440p will alleviate the bottleneck enough for a smoother experience, or will the 5600 still hold back my 3080 too much? Which upgrade should I prioritize?

For most AAA games on high to ultra settings, a 1440p monitor should work fine with your setup.

I appreciate it!

Before jumping into any hardware changes, consider capping your frame rate using the Nvidia driver. Basically, higher resolutions typically reduce your FPS, lessening the CPU load. You could try setting a cap at 70 FPS first to see how it feels, without having to upgrade your monitor right now.

A Ryzen 5600 paired with a 3080 was excellent for 1440p gaming a couple of years ago before the new x3d chips came out.

I noticed the 7500F benchmarks are just slightly lower than others, and it's much cheaper, which is why I’m considering it.

I personally run a 5600x with a 6750XT and it handles 1440p gaming super well, so you should be good.
