A couple of years ago, I built a budget gaming rig with a Ryzen 5 3600 and a 3060 Ti. Recently, I got a great deal on a 4070, so I swapped out the 3060 Ti. Now, I'm playing at 1440p and quickly noticed that I'm hitting a CPU bottleneck in many games. I'm debating whether I should wait for a complete motherboard and CPU upgrade for future GPUs like a 6070 or if I should just upgrade my CPU to something stronger within the AM4 socket. I'm currently considering the 5700X or 5600 CPUs. Will either of these help me get the most out of my 4070 while gaming at 1440p?

I've tested various CPU combinations, and from experience, even with a 5800X3D, the bottleneck is real with a 4070 in certain scenarios. If you're looking at mid to high-end GPUs down the line, I'd caution you that the AM4 platform might not be ideal long-term. But for now, a 5600X or better will give you a solid boost!
Upgrading to a 5700X or 5600 will definitely help reduce your CPU limitations and can provide a decent performance boost at 1440p. If you can find either at a reasonable price, it’s worth it!
Yeah, and considering the RAM prices right now, doing a CPU upgrade makes more sense until you're ready to go all-in on newer tech.
Honestly, if you're looking ahead, think about the future. The 5700X or 5600 is a good stopgap, but the AM5 platform is looking better for future upgrades. It’s a shame about the RAM costs making it tricky to jump to that, though.

Right? I've been hesitant to upgrade my 5900X since RAM prices have skyrocketed. It’s such a bummer!
