I'm currently running a Ryzen 5 3700X CPU with an RTX 3070 Ti GPU and 32GB of Samsung RAM on an ASUS EX-A320M motherboard. I recently moved and disassembled my PC, and now I'm looking to buy a new case and power supply since I disposed of the old ones. I'm considering upgrading my motherboard to a B450 or B550 since the one I'm using is pretty outdated. However, if I'm going to replace the motherboard, I wonder if I should just go for a DDR5-compatible board for future-proofing. The only thing holding me back is the high cost of new DDR5 RAM. What do you think I should do? 1. Keep the existing board, 2. Upgrade to a better DDR4 board, or 3. Go all in for a DDR5 board?

Honestly, it depends on your budget. If you can stretch to $300, you could snag a Ryzen 7700 and 16GB of DDR5. Otherwise, sticking with your current RAM and transitioning to a B760 or Z690 with an Intel chip is also a choice.
If your current setup works fine for you and does what you need, there's really no reason to rush into an upgrade. Future-proofing isn't always necessary since tech evolves rapidly; DDR6 is already on the horizon. Stick with what you have unless you're feeling a strong need to change things up.
Upgrading to DDR5 definitely means you'll need a new processor and motherboard, which adds up quickly since DDR5 RAM is pricey. If your current system meets your needs, you should save your money for now.
If you really want to maintain 32GB of RAM but don't want to shell out for DDR5 just yet, a B550 board paired with a Ryzen 5800X3D could be a solid upgrade. It's a sweet spot for performance without going overboard on costs.
Right now isn't the best time to upgrade just for the sake of it. If your goal is simply a better-looking motherboard, there's nothing wrong with that. Just make sure that the performance benefits are worth the cost for you.
I recommend looking into the MSI B550M PRO VDH WiFi motherboard for about $100. It has plenty of features for what you need and would work well with your existing setup. Plus, if you do decide to go for DDR5 later, that would allow for an easier upgrade path.
I completely agree! My setup is also pretty basic, so I'm not in a rush. I just want something nicer to look at, honestly.
