Should I Upgrade to a Ryzen 5800X or Go for the 5800X3D?

Hey everyone! I recently bought a 9070XT and I'm using an AM4 motherboard. Right now, I have a Ryzen 5 5600X, but I'm considering an upgrade to either the Ryzen 7 5800X or the 5800X3D. Is the 5800X good enough, or will I really need to spend extra dough on the 5800X3D for better performance? I appreciate any advice or insights you can share. Thanks!

While the 5700X3D can definitely give you better numbers compared to the 5800X, if you’re just aiming for consistent 60 or 120fps, a Ryzen 5700 and some good RAM can do wonders. But honestly, going the AM5 route with a basic Ryzen 5 will provide a similar performance boost as the 5000X3D chips, plus you'll have a solid upgrade path in the future for a similar price.

You might want to look for a Ryzen 7 5700X3D instead! The jump from a 5600X to a 5800X usually doesn't yield significant gains in gaming. The 5800X3D, however, is a beast when it comes to gaming performance, especially for those tricky 1% lows. I'm running one and even though it can hold back my 5090 in some scenarios, overall it's working fine for me. Just keep in mind, I'm waiting for the 10,000 series AMD CPUs myself.

I wouldn't really recommend either chip. The performance upgrade from 5600X to 5800X in gaming is minimal, like 5%, but in geeky workloads, you get a nice bump in cores. The 5800X3D is priced over $300 and frankly isn't worth it right now—it's pushing into 9700X territory. I'd suggest holding off for the next generation—an upgrade to a full setup (CPU, motherboard, RAM) could be a smarter plan when the 12-core 10800X drops.

Totally agree! But if waiting isn’t your thing, grabbing a 9800X3D along with an AM5 motherboard and DDR5 RAM could be a great choice now. You'll be set for future upgrades too, like Zen 6 or even Zen 7 when they arrive.

Honestly, I’d just save up for an AM5 setup! If you’re near a Micro Center, you can snag a bundle with a motherboard, 32GB RAM, and a CPU that will outperform the 5800X3D for under $400!
