Should I Upgrade to AM5 and DDR5 or Just Buy More RAM?

Hey everyone! After using my GTX 1070 for seven years, I finally upgraded to a 4070 Super at MSRP. Now I'm considering enhancing the rest of my setup, but I'm torn about whether to dive into a full upgrade or just add more RAM. Currently, I'm using 2x8GB 3200MHz sticks, which are becoming inadequate for the heavier games and applications I'm running. If I decide to upgrade completely, I'm thinking about going with AM5, probably opting for one of the X3D line CPUs and at least 32GB of DDR5 RAM. I want a motherboard that has an M.2 NVMe slot since I'm using an SSD. I also have a 750W EVGA gold power supply, so that's another factor. On the flip side, if I just want to buy more RAM, should I find two more of my current 8GB sticks or go for a pair of slightly faster 16GB sticks? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Do you really need better performance right now? If not, I suggest just getting more RAM and waiting for AM6. If you do need it now, then an AM5 upgrade will definitely help, especially for 1440p gaming, but it won't be as drastic as the jump from the 1070 to the 4070 Super.

I've built a rig similar to yours with a 4070 Super and an Intel 6700k. I went with a Gigabyte B650, a 9800X3D, and 32GB of 6000MHz RAM. It made a huge difference—definitely worth the investment!

I’m still using my 5800X with a 5070 TI and it’s running great for 1440p. I plan to stick with it for another couple of years until AM6 comes out. If you're not experiencing major issues, your CPU should hold up for a bit longer.

Check out this solid combo I found for around $650. You could save a bit by switching to a cheaper motherboard or RAM: [PCPartPicker link](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CkrjLc). Just a heads up, though, prices might be higher where you live like they are for me.

Yeah, the prices can be quite different. I looked it up, and it’s about $720 for me, which is a bit steep.

You can get some decent 2x8GB 3200MHz kits for around $30, or 2x16GB for about $65. They don't have to match your current sticks exactly, although using them in pairs is important. You should be good with either option for a couple more years while waiting for the new CPUs.

That's a relief! I thought I had to match everything perfectly! I guess as long as they pair up correctly, I'm good to go.
