Should I Upgrade to AM5 or Find an AM4 Alternative?

Hey there! I'm currently using a Ryzen 5 5600X, but I'm not getting great performance in CPU-heavy games at 1440p on high settings—often dropping below 60fps. I'm thinking about upgrading to a 7800X3D, which means I'd also need to switch to DDR5 32GB 6000MHZ RAM and an AM5 motherboard. However, RAM prices are pretty steep right now. Are there any decent CPU alternatives on the AM4 platform that can compete with the 7800X3D? Or should I just make the jump to AM5? Here's my current setup: RX 7900 GRE HELLHOUND 16GB, Ryzen 5 5600X, Vengeance LPX 32GB 3600mHz DDR4, A520 M K (AM4), FSP VITA GM 1000W, Samsung 980 1TB SSD, Samsung 1TB HDD, Kingston 240GB SSD.

You’ll either need to invest in RAM or a CPU. If you can snag a Micro Center deal for the AM5 upgrade and offset the costs by selling your AM4 parts (like around $275 total for your motherboard, CPU, and RAM), it might be worth it! The 7800X3D is going for about $650, which reduces your out-of-pocket expenses significantly. Just think about how much future-proofing you want. The 7500X3D could also be a budget-friendly option and save you a lot of cash!

I get where you're coming from; I think I’m leaning more towards the AM5 upgrade too. It's probably a smarter long-term investment, especially if I found a 7800X3D for $250 new!

The best options you have on AM4 are the 5600X3D, 5700X3D, or 5800X3D, but they’re pretty pricey these days. What kind of games are you playing, by the way?

Upgrading to a 5700X3D or 5800X3D will give you a solid bump in performance, but you won’t reach the same level as the 7800X3D. Plus, I gotta say, your low-end motherboard isn’t ideal for handling high-performance components effectively.
