Should I Upgrade to AM5 or Upgrade My GPU Instead?

I'm feeling really uncertain about whether I should upgrade to an AM5 platform. I've recently been offered DDR5 RAM but turned it down since I'm still using DDR4. I didn't realize how high the prices are right now! My current setup is pretty basic for gaming and video editing: a Ryzen 5 5600X, 16GB of RAM, and a RTX 3070. It's been holding up well, but I'm thinking of upgrading my CPU for video editing. However, I've heard that even the best AM4 CPUs struggle to compete with affordable AM5 chips. Should I just save my money for AM5 in the future instead?

A GPU upgrade might be the best way to go. Your current PC setup is still solid for gaming and editing!

Your current setup is fine as is, but upgrading the GPU could enhance your gaming experience significantly, especially if you want to play newer titles smoothly.

Honestly, you might want to consider upgrading your GPU instead. If you're not playing competitive games that need high FPS or CPU-heavy ones, the GPU upgrade could give you better performance in most scenarios.

The standard 5700 is pretty comparable to the 7600, so if you're debating between upgrading your CPU or GPU, definitely lean towards the GPU right now and wait out the RAM shortage.

You can go for high-end CPUs like the Ryzen 9 5950X, but that's probably overkill for you. For around £350-400, you could snag a R5 7500F, 16GB DDR5, and a Gigabyte B650 board, which would be a solid AM5 starter. But if you lean towards AM5, just know it's going to future-proof you a bit.
