I'm trying to decide whether I should upgrade my current CPU to an Intel 14600K or 14700, or if I should just build a new system with an AMD Ryzen chip, maybe the 9600X. My current setup includes an Asus Strix B660 Gaming motherboard with an updated BIOS, 32GB of 3200MHz RAM, and an i5 12400F processor. I also have an Arctic Freezer 34 cooler and an RX 9070XT GPU. I play a lot of Dota 2 and CS2, and occasionally NBA 2K, but I'm noticing some lag and FPS drops to 60 or lower during intense 12v12 matches in Dota 2. Sometimes I wonder if my cooler can handle the new CPUs, or if switching to a new AMD build will be a better option. Any advice?

It sounds like you might need a stronger CPU, especially if you're getting lag in Dota 2 during large matches. The 14600K does have extra E cores, but that alone might not solve your issue. Have you checked Task Manager while playing to see if your CPU cores are maxed out? It could be worth testing with just one monitor connected too, just to see if that makes a difference. Sometimes multitasking on dual displays can strain the GPU, especially with different refresh rates. Before dropping cash on a new CPU, try some troubleshooting to pinpoint your lag issue. But if you do decide to upgrade, the 14600K is solid, especially with discounts around.
If you can get a 12700K or 12900K at a good price, that could be a worthwhile upgrade. But honestly, if you're looking for a big performance boost, going with AMD Zen 4, especially something like the 9800X3D, could be a great investment in the long run.
The 14600K is a good value too, plus you might get a free game with it, like BF6, so definitely weigh your options!
Honestly, I think the 14600K is a pretty reliable upgrade and it shouldn’t be too hard to keep cool while gaming. If it were me, I’d probably lean towards that option.
I've tried everything to fix the lag, including switching out my GPU for a 3070Ti, but it didn't help my FPS in Dota 2 or CS2. I really think I need a new CPU.
