Should I Upgrade to an RTX 3080 or a 4070?

I'm considering upgrading my GPU from an RTX 2070 Super. It's still performing, but I'd like something more robust for upcoming AAA games and for the esports titles I enjoy. My setup includes an i5-11400KF CPU, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, a 750W power supply, and a B760m DDR4 motherboard. Currently, I game at 1080p but I'm contemplating moving up to 1440p for better performance.

The games I often play include Warzone, Apex, CS2, Red Dead 2, Cyberpunk, GTAV, Arc Raiders, and R6. For AAA titles, I prioritize quality, while for esports games, I focus on performance. I'm not ready to invest in the latest 5000 series yet, and I don't have much experience with AMD cards. I'm curious about how the RTX 3080 and 4070 would work with my current setup and resolution. If you have other suggestions that might fit better with my build, I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance!

In my experience, if the 3080 is priced similarly to the 4070, I'd just go for the cheaper one. I've been a bit underwhelmed by the 4070, so if you find the 3080 at a good price, it might make sense to grab that instead.

Have you thought about your budget? If you’re open to buying used, you might find some great deals. If you can spend around 750 CAD, that opens up more options too!

I’m fine with used options! Just want to make sure I’m getting the best value for my setup.

Honestly, it really depends on the pricing. If the 4070 is available at a decent price, it's definitely the better option. Just keep an eye on any deals out there!

I’d lean towards the 4070 for its efficiency and newer tech. I switched from a 2070 Super to an AMD 9070XT, and the boost in performance was huge! You might want to consider AMD cards too if you're looking for value.

If you're weighing between the two, I'd say go with the 4070. It has more VRAM than the 10GB 3080 and supports better technologies like DLSS 4 and frame generation, plus it uses less power overall. That could be a good fit for gaming at higher resolutions!
