Should I Upgrade to Intel or AMD for My PC?

I'm looking to upgrade my processor because my old PC is starting to struggle with multitasking, especially when I run The Division 2 alongside web browsers. I mainly play indie games and don't rush to play AAA titles on release. My current setup includes an Intel i7 7700, 16 GB of DDR4 RAM, and a recent RX 9060 XT GPU. Windows 10's security updates are also running out, which adds to my urgency. I'm considering two upgrade options: the Intel i5 14400F with a motherboard for about $330, or the AMD R5 9600X with a newer motherboard and 32 GB DDR5 RAM for around $715. Given my moderate gaming habits and the fact I don't need the latest tech, which upgrade makes more sense for me?

Before upgrading, consider that your stuttering might be related to your RAM. It could be worth checking out that aspect first!

Honestly, the Intel upgrade seems like a great choice for your needs. It's a solid deal, especially if you're not pushing your machine to the limits with heavy gaming or streaming.

If you're looking for a good upgrade path, I'd recommend the AMD 9600X. It uses less power and gives you more options for upgrades down the line, plus it should handle multitasking a lot better.

That's a good point! Longer upgrade paths are definitely a bonus.
