I've been a long-time reader but this is my first time posting here. I'm gearing up to decommission several Server 2016 servers and am considering Server 2025 as their replacement. We operate in a VMWare environment and I'm weighing the pros and cons of moving to 2025 versus sticking with Server 2022. I've come across some concerning feedback about 2025 being quite glitchy, but those stories are a bit dated. If anyone has recent experiences, I'd love to hear your thoughts. I also plan on setting up two domain controllers since we're a small organization, and I want to make sure I'm not complicating things by choosing 2025 over 2022. Thanks for any insights!

I’ve set up Server 2025 in a fresh environment and had no issues, but it really doesn’t play well with other existing servers. That’s where most of my headaches started, especially with AD integration.
I wouldn’t recommend 2025 for critical infrastructures like domain controllers. We’ve upgraded some other servers to 2025 and had issues, but I wouldn’t touch a DC with it yet.
This reinforces my concerns! I thought about mixing 2025 with 2022 for different roles, but I think I'll stick with 2022 for DCs.
From my experience, 2025 is fine for member servers but I wouldn’t suggest using it for domain controllers. Too many bugs still lurking in there.
Still building out servers with 2022 myself. It’s just safer, especially when it comes to domain controllers.
Glad I’m not the only one! With all the issues I've heard about DCs on 2025, sticking with 2022 seems like the right call.
Yeah, I hear you. I've only worked with 2022 too; 2025 just sounds like a headache waiting to happen.
Everyone knows it’s best to wait until at least 2027 to even think about upgrading to 2025!
Lol, I'm with you there! Better safe than sorry!
Honestly, I’d go with Server 2022 right now. It’s stable and reliable, especially for critical roles like DCs.
We’ve got about 60% of our stack upgraded to 2025 and it’s been smooth sailing for us so far, but we’re keeping DCs on 2022 to avoid any risk. Just play it safe, honestly.

That's what I'm worried about too! I have a mixed environment and really don’t want to disrupt everything just to try out 2025.
