Should I Use 4 RAM Sticks or Just 2 for My AMD Build?

Hey everyone! I'm building my first AMD system and I have a Ryzen 7 9800x3d paired with a Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7 ATX AM5 motherboard. I've got 4 sticks of G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB, which are 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30. I've come across mixed opinions about whether it's better to use 2 sticks instead of 4. Some people say 4 sticks can be difficult to run at full speed, while I've seen others with setups that include all 4. I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether I should stick with my current configuration, get a 64 GB kit instead, or if needing 64 GB is just a nice bonus for someone who's new to DDR5. Thanks!

I’d echo the advice to go with a 2 x 32GB setup. Four sticks might be fun to try, but you’ll likely face challenges with speed and stability. Always good to check your motherboard's QVL for compatibility, too.

Thanks for pointing that out, I’ll definitely check that!

If you're looking at needing 64GB, I'd suggest getting 2 x 32GB sticks of RAM; it's better for speed compared to 4 sticks for your setup. The cost for a decent 64GB kit is around $300, so just make sure it fits your needs before splurging.

Running 4 sticks of DDR5 at 6000 MHz can be tricky, so I’d recommend going with just 2 sticks. If you're mostly gaming, 32GB should be more than enough for you!

Yeah, I'm primarily gaming but I’d like to do some light video editing and record gameplay too.

Honestly, just stick with 2 x 32GB. More sticks can mean less speed and stability, plus it simplifies everything. If you don’t plan on heavy multitasking or specific gaming like Escape from Tarkov, 32GB is plenty.
