I'm currently building a new PC and I have a 1TB 970 Plus Evo SSD that I've been using for four years. I'm wondering if it's a good idea to use it for Windows 11. Is there going to be a noticeable difference in boot times or general performance compared to a newer, faster SSD like the SN850X?

As long as it’s an NVMe drive, you should be totally fine for modern tasks. A 1TB SSD is a good start, but you might want to think about adding another drive later if you need more space for games or media!
Honestly, you probably won’t notice much of a difference using your older SSD. For regular tasks and booting, the speed gap between older NVMe SSDs and the latest models is minimal for most users. You’d be fine with the 970 Plus Evo—it's still a great drive!
Yeah, I agree! I've been using an old SSD for ages, and it boots my system up super quick. It's just about your needs.
There's really no need to stress about it. Unless you're dealing with massive file transfers, that older SSD will perform just fine. I've run games on older drives without issues, so I think you're good!
I totally get you! My older SSD handles games like a champ. Just go for it!
Using an older SSD in a new build isn’t dumb at all! You've already paid for it, right? Just plug it in and enjoy. Upgrading just for slightly better speed doesn't make much sense for most users.
I plan to get a secondary 4TB SSD for my games too. The 1TB will just hold Windows!
