Hey everyone! I'm planning to build a new PC for work and gaming and was thinking about getting the Intel i7-14700K. However, I've heard from someone that it might be better to wait for the upcoming 15th gen processors. I'm also aware that the 14th gen is the last one supporting the LGA1700 socket, and I want to avoid upgrading my motherboard and RAM shortly after. Should I hold off for the 15th gen, or is the i7-14700K still a solid choice?

Just to clarify, there’s no longer an i7 naming convention since Intel has retired those brand names. The i7-14700K is the last one under that branding, and any future CPUs with LGA1700 will be of a different architecture. If you're looking into the future, the new 'Intel Ultra' CPUs might not be as great for gaming, either.
Intel tends to change sockets often, so you might have to switch your motherboard again in the future even if you wait for the 15th gen. So, I wouldn’t stress too much about it. The i7-14700K is still a great pick!
The 15th gen processors are actually already out, but they haven’t been flying off the shelves. People prefer AMD's AM5 platform for its better price-to-performance ratio right now.
