Struggling to Find a Remote Job After Maternity Leave

I've been in the DevOps field for a decade and recently took a short maternity leave. Now, I'm hoping to transition to a fully remote role to care for my newborn. But despite applying to numerous job platforms like LinkedIn and many others for the past two months, I've had no luck getting replies. I've also tried sites like Toptal and freelancer.com, but they seem overwhelmed at the moment. I have a solid background in AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Linux, Jenkins, Argo, and Kafka, so I'm confused as to why things are so tough. Is the job market really this competitive right now, or could I be doing something wrong? Any advice or leads would be greatly appreciated!

I'm in the same boat as you. I started job hunting about three weeks ago and have sent out applications to 38 places with only 4 rejections so far. Just try to hang in there; it seems like everyone’s feeling the pinch right now. Last time I looked for a job, I got way more responses, so this feels a lot tougher by comparison.

I totally get it. I've been through a similar experience and lost track of how many applications I've sent out. It's frustrating to get good feedback but still not land a role.

It's a tough time for everyone, so don't take it personally. There are tons of applications flooding the market right now. Have you thought about applying to smaller companies that may not get as many applicants? Another tip is to consider updating your job title on your resume to something that might be more in vogue, like Platform Engineer. Good luck!

Try to leverage your network as much as possible. Reach out to any contacts you have in the industry and see if they can refer you for open positions. Networking can open doors you might not expect! It’s not just about sending out resumes anymore, but who you know too.

It’s definitely tough right now in the job market. A lot of companies, including the one I work at, have been on hiring freezes for years. Focus on fully remote firms like DuckDuckGo, Zapier, or GitLab if you haven’t already. They might be more open to hiring. In the meantime, keep leveling up your skills and checking out resources that list established remote companies...

I know it's discouraging, but don’t give up hope. After over a year and applying to more than 500 jobs, I finally landed a remote position. I tailored my resume, networked on platforms like LinkedIn, and tried to be among the first candidates to apply. Your experience is definitely valuable; it just might take some time. Keep pushing through!
