I've spent a decade in office-based DevOps positions, but after a short two-month maternity leave, I want to transition to a fully remote job to care for my newborn. Unfortunately, I've been applying on LinkedIn and various other platforms for the past two months without receiving a single response. I've utilized all the recommended remote job sites and even signed up with Toptal and Freelancer, but it feels like the job market is just too saturated right now. I have strong skills in AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, Linux, Jenkins, Argo, and Kafka, so I'm not lacking in experience. Is there something I'm missing here, or is the current job market just that rough? I'd really appreciate any tips or leads!

The job market is definitely rough right now. A 500-employee fully remote company I work for has been in a hiring freeze for two years, so you're not alone. It might help to target truly fully remote companies like DuckDuckGo, Zapier, and GitLab. They're hiring more actively compared to others. Check this GitHub link for established remote companies too: [GitHub Remote Companies](https://github.com/yanirs/established-remote).
You're definitely not the only one feeling this frustration. I tried for over a year, applying to 500+ jobs! A key piece of advice is to apply early to new listings—being among the first candidates can significantly boost your chances. I tailored my resume and networked like crazy on platforms like LinkedIn. It's also a bit about luck, being in the right place at the right time, but keep pushing through!
I can relate. I've applied to about 38 positions in the last three weeks after a long break from job hunting. So far, only four rejections. Last time I searched for jobs, things were a lot easier. Hang in there; the process can be pretty disheartening!
I've been in the same boat, applying everywhere and just getting rejected. It's a tough market for experienced folks too.
The market is undeniably tough right now, but it’s not just you—many are struggling. You might consider applying for on-site positions for the time being or just taking a break to regroup mentally. It’s really disheartening to face continuous rejection, but remember, it’s not a reflection of your skills or worth.
That makes sense, thanks for sharing! Networking can be a real game changer. I’ll definitely try to apply sooner.
