Struggling with JavaScript in Bootcamp – Is This Normal?

Hey everyone, I'm currently in a coding bootcamp and I'm really struggling with JavaScript. I feel like I'm doing everything—attending lectures, doing exercises, taking notes, and even managing my focus with ADHD meds—but I keep hitting walls. Just when I think I understand things like loops, functions, and arrays, I find myself lost again.

I genuinely want to improve and I'd love to hear from those who've been in similar situations. Is this confusion a normal part of the learning process? How did you push through? Were there specific tools or methods you found helpful? I appreciate any advice or personal stories you can share, without the condescension please—just honest feedback from people who understand. Thanks in advance!

It's totally normal to feel overwhelmed in a bootcamp! The fast pace can make it hard to really grasp new concepts. Focus on mastering one topic at a time, and don’t hesitate to ask for help when you're struggling. You might find discussing specific topics with your peers really useful.

Yes, struggling is part of the journey. Learning programming is a long road, and everyone hits speed bumps along the way. The key is persistence! If something doesn’t make sense, try to approach it from a different angle or even take breaks. Sometimes it helps to switch topics too. Keep going at your own pace, and don’t forget to celebrate the little victories!

You’ve got to use what you're learning outside the classroom! Try building small projects on your own. It might feel a bit tough at first, but that’s completely okay! Just remember, all developers start off feeling confused. The bootcamp lays the foundation, but the real learning happens when you start implementing it yourself.

Finding a practical project to work on can be a game-changer! Think about what you might want to build, whether it's a simple web app or a site for a friend. This kind of mock project will help you see the bigger picture and reinforce what you're learning.

I totally get you! It often takes struggling through tough moments to finally have those 'aha!' moments. Just keep experimenting and remember that programming involves a lot of problem-solving. If you're facing something new, try breaking it down step by step and see where it leads you.
