I'm the sole administrator for a Microsoft 365 Business plan and I'm facing a pretty frustrating issue. My old Android phone, where I had the Microsoft Authenticator app and my email set up, broke down a couple of days ago, so I got a new Pixel 9a. However, I'm having a tough time setting up Microsoft Authenticator on this new device. Here's the problem: I can't access my email on the new phone because Outlook keeps asking for a code from the Authenticator app. When I try to set up the app, I'm stuck in a verification loop because I can't get the necessary approval or verification code without first setting up the account. I've tried logging into the Admin Center, but it only offers app-based verification, which I can't complete. I can access my email through Outlook on my desktop, but I can't get into the Admin Center. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like a tricky situation! First, if you still have access to Outlook on your desktop, check if you can change your MFA settings from there to a different method, like a text message or alternate email. This might let you bypass the Authenticator requirement temporarily. Also, setting up a backup admin account next time could save you a lot of trouble!
Contacting the data protection team is a solid step. They might be able to help you reset your MFA settings to regain access to your account. I did that once when I lost my authentication method and it worked out well. Good luck!
Yeah, it seems like that's the only option at this point. Thanks for the advice!
Consider setting up a backup MFA method next time like a second app or a phone number. It can really help prevent these issues in the future. Plus, a password manager can help manage those codes if you go that route instead of relying solely on the Authenticator app!
Lesson learned for sure! I'll definitely look into that setup next time.

That's a good suggestion! I had a similar problem and being able to receive texts helped me reset my MFA.
