My company is currently using the Tanzu Application Platform (TAP), but with Broadcom discontinuing this product, we're evaluating our options for a new platform. We've narrowed it down to Tanzu Platform for Cloud Foundry and OpenShift, and we're looking for input on which is the better route to take. Our needs include support for both AWS in the cloud and an on-premises VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) environment.
OpenShift seems to have a robust community and is Kubernetes-based, which may future-proof our operations. On the other hand, Tanzu Platform appears to work well for large enterprises, but I'm uncertain if it's still attractive to new customers or mostly relied upon by existing legacy clients. I'm also curious if anyone is still considering Cloud Foundry for new platform installations.

Switching to OpenShift might also allow you to migrate your VMs from VMware, making the transition less painful if you're already in that ecosystem.
Why chain yourself to Broadcom? OpenShift offers a more flexible solution especially given its community backing. Alternatively, if you’re considering managed services, Options like AWS EKS or Azure AKS could simplify things much more than what you'll get with Tanzu.
If you’re moving towards Kubernetes orchestration, OpenShift or Rancher would be solid choices for both hybrid and on-prem environments. They do a great job with this type of deployment.
Honestly, if you’re looking to avoid headaches, I wouldn’t recommend sticking with Tanzu. I've had my fair share of pain trying to get it to work; it feels like suffering—not just software issues, but also upgrading and support have been nightmarish.
Exactly! The support from Broadcom has been disappointing, and their solutions seem to create more issues than they solve.
My organization ditched Tanzu for OpenShift and even migrated our VMs successfully. OpenShift has been great for stability and features.
But with some workloads, managed services just aren’t viable for us. Broadcom it is.
