Thoughts on Setting Up a Monitoring Wall for IT Teams?

I'm considering creating a monitoring wall for our SysAdmin and Helpdesk teams. The main focus would be to track online services like Microsoft and other external app outages, monitor our ISP links for network status, check if our servers are online or offline, and keep an eye on key performance indicators (KPIs) for our ticketing system. What apps or tools would you recommend for implementing this effectively?

Honestly, I found that having a big monitoring wall was just a waste of time. I had an 8-monitor setup showing the same stuff you mentioned, and no one found it useful. Instead, focus on setting up your monitoring systems to alert you for actionable items only. You can accomplish all this with just one good solution that fits your budget and needs. Dashboards might be more effective than a wall display!

I'd love to set one up! I started working with CheckMK, but onboarding is pretty time-consuming, especially with the configurations in the free version.

We have a wide-ranging monitoring setup displayed on a big 55-inch TV, and it works wonders! The executives love it, which makes it a win-win situation for the team.

You might find a wall setup to be more distracting than helpful. Instead, consider focusing on real-time notifications through text or email. It could save you a lot of hassle in the long run.

I’m looking for real-time visuals so it can help when a customer complains about internet issues. A quick glance at a wall could show if the link is down!

Have you looked into Checkmk, Prometheus with Grafana, or Zabbix? There are a ton of tools out there, and each has its own strengths. It’s worth checking forums for the latest discussions; these options are brought up quite often!

Trying them all out sounds like a lot of work! If only I had more time to test each of those options!
