Time for an Upgrade: Should I Upgrade Just My GPU or the Whole System?

I've recently started gaming more, but my NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 is starting to struggle. I find myself having to set most games to the lowest settings and I still can't hit a steady 60fps. I'm playing games like Elden Ring, Tekken 8, and God of War Ragnarok, and I don't need 4k—1440p is fine for me. My budget is between $700 and $1200, and I'm wondering if upgrading just my GPU would be enough to handle current and upcoming games at high settings, or if I should consider upgrading other parts of my PC as well. All my components were bought in 2016, and here's my current setup: Intel i7-6700K CPU @ 4.00GHz and the GTX 1070 (8 GB). Any recommendations on which GPU to get?

The GTX 1070 is still decent, especially at 1080p, but it’s really starting to show its age at 1440p. You might want to consider a full system upgrade for better performance—especially if you're playing newer titles. It could save you money in the long run if you're looking to get better specs overall.

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I'm definitely leaning towards a more complete rebuild.
