Tips for Recovering Data from a Damaged iPhone 14 Pro Max

I've damaged my iPhone 14 Pro Max—both the back glass and front screen are broken. The front screen is mostly intact with just a small chip, but it's come loose and only held on by a wire or something similar. I can hear the screenshot sound when I take a screenshot, and sometimes I get haptic feedback if I try resetting the phone with a wrong password. I think my phone is pretty much done for, and I'm leaning towards buying a new one instead of fixing this one. However, I really want to recover my data first. Since the phone is still responsive enough to take screenshots, is there a chance I can transfer my data to another device? Besides going to the Apple Store, are there other places I can go for this? And can anyone share their thoughts on how much this might cost, specifically for the data transfer, excluding the price of a new phone?

You could’ve avoided this by using iCloud for backups! But for recovery, check Apple’s website for repair costs. They often want to replace both the front and back—which can be pricey. If you're willing to get an inexpensive screen just to back up your phone, that might be better than going all out on a full repair. It's worth considering!

I tried to back up to iCloud, but I kept getting notifications about issues I didn’t manage to resolve!

It sounds like you might need a new front screen to safely access your data. A lot of technicians can replace screens without charging an arm and a leg. I've seen people do it themselves with just some basic tools. Since your phone is still reacting, you should be able to get your data off it once the screen is fixed. It's a pretty straightforward job for a competent technician—can be done in about 10 minutes!

I watched YouTube videos on how to replace the screen, and I think I could handle it too. Was it difficult when you did it yourself?
