I've been working as a production support engineer since early 2022 and I've gained four years of experience in managing production incidents while using tools like Splunk and NewRelic. I've been studying DevOps for about a year and a half now, and I'm ready to move into a DevOps or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) position. I'm confident that if I attend DevOps interviews, I could succeed in about 40% of them. With my current knowledge and skills, do you think I'll be able to manage and thrive as a DevOps Engineer once I land a job?

Honestly, in today's world, it's possible to navigate through many tech roles with the help of AI tools. What's crucial is adopting a holistic mindset—understanding the 'how' and 'why' behind the tasks you do and learning to prevent issues before they arise.
To start, try to get involved with Dev teams even informally. Build relationships and look into their code to gain a better understanding of their processes. Ask questions and find opportunities to help with CI or deployment improvements. This closer collaboration can provide valuable insights that will help you in interviews later on.
It really depends on your background. I transitioned from cloud and systems engineering to a DevOps role, and I believe that a strong knowledge of Linux and networking is key. The other tools and frameworks are just layers on top.

That's true! While tools like AI can offer solutions, having a solid foundation of knowledge is what really will make a difference in your ability to perform successfully.
