Hey everyone! I got a portable Blu-ray/DVD drive as a gift recently to use with my laptop, but I'm having a tough time getting it to read Blu-rays. I've tried downgrading the firmware to the earliest version available, and I've used both MPC-HC and VLC to play the discs, but neither program really works. I managed to get it to recognize the disc in MPC, showing the movie length, but it wouldn't actually play. I'm really frustrated since it's been over two weeks and I just want to enjoy this expensive gift! Any suggestions?

Did you remember to install any software that came with the drive? Many Windows players won’t play Blu-rays without specific programs like Cyberlink PowerDVD. Just double-checking to make sure that’s all squared away.
You might need a license or codec to play Blu-ray media. VLC often struggles with commercial Blu-rays because of copy protection, so you could try installing AACS and BD+ libraries or software like MakeMKV to rip the Blu-ray to a playable format. That could solve the problem!
First off, does the disk spin when you insert it? Some external drives need a power supply—does yours have two cables or just one? Also, what’s the make and model of your drive? Check if the region settings match your discs, as this can be a common issue.
