Trouble Installing Drivers on Dell Pro Plus Laptops

Has anyone else faced issues with installing drivers on the new Dell Pro Plus laptops? Our company has been struggling with them, especially since the Command Update tool is quite unreliable. When we try to install driver packages manually, they immediately fail with the message 'the update installer operation is unsuccessful.' We've attempted running the installers directly from the desktop and ensured that .NET is installed, but nothing seems to work. I'm curious if anyone else is having similar experiences or knows of any solutions!

You're not alone! We recently got 10 Dell Pro Plus laptops too, and we're having all sorts of problems. For instance, some won’t even turn on when connected to Dell Hub Monitors. The support team had no clue what to do, and we even had to send in a setup for troubleshooting. With the driver issue, we faced the same unsuccessful installation message. After wasting time, we ended up reimaging one device, which sometimes helps but it’s hit or miss!

We've tried reimaging several devices as well. It sometimes works, but it's so inconsistent, and you can't run the installers if they worked before.

We encountered issues when we tried to reimage our Dell Pro Plus devices as well. The driver .cab files would fail to install certain drivers. I only had one device to set up, but I hope Dell gets this sorted out before we need more!

You might want to check out KACE Quest for Universal Endpoint Management (UEM). They specialize in Dell products and can automate OS and app updates which could save some headaches. Just a thought!

I hadn’t heard of that, thanks! Sounds very useful.

I found that if I install driver version 5.1.0, it works fine on our laptops. The latest version just freezes during installation, so definitely try that older version.

Have you reached out to Dell Support? Since these are new laptops, they might be able to give you more direct solutions. Just checking!

Yeah, Dell Support suggested running from the desktop, but they haven't been very helpful at all.
