Trouble Installing Linux on My Optiplex 5060: Need Help!

I'm trying to install Openmediavault on my free Optiplex 5060, but I'm running into some issues. I've also attempted to install Debian and Ubuntu on different disks, and those went smoothly, but the system just won't recognize a bootable drive for OMV. I've spent about 3 hours after work on this, and despite my efforts, I'm stuck. I initially thought installing OMV on top of Debian would solve the problem, but I can't even boot into Debian anymore. Any suggestions on how to navigate this?

Also, when I was setting up my Dell XPS, I had to manually add the boot entry in the UEFI menu. You might want to check under /boot/efi to see if you can add grubx64.efi manually. It can be a bit hidden sometimes but worth a shot!

I tried looking for that, but it says 'file system not found!' The only thing it recognizes is my Ventoy USB drive.

Definitely check if Secure Boot is off, like others mentioned. I faced similar issues with my Optiplex. Sometimes I also had to install directly from a DVD instead of USB; it just wouldn't boot from the USB, no matter what I did. If you can, reset the UEFI settings with jumpers; I had to do that once too, and it finally worked for me!

Good point! I forgot to mention that resetting the UEFI can help fix weird boot issues.

Sounds like you're hitting a wall! Just a heads up, OMV is a full OS, so if you think it didn't install correctly, that might explain your boot issues. Are you using a USB? Sometimes, USB booting can be tricky due to UEFI settings. Did you try turning off Secure Boot? Also, I found that installing via Ethernet can tighten up the process. Don't forget to remove the boot drive after installation, too!

Yeah, and making sure you've got the right boot order in the BIOS helps a lot too!
