I'm having a problem with my girlfriend trying to join our local Minecraft server. She's been getting timed out every time she tries to connect, whether it's to my server or a public one like Hypixel. Although she can play in singleplayer mode without issues, the connection to servers is a problem. We've already tried uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft, flushing the DNS, and some other things I can't remember right now. Unfortunately, she doesn't know where her router is, so rebooting it might be tough. I'm wondering if updating Java could help or if there's something else going on. For context, she's playing on a MacBook. Any suggestions would be awesome, thanks!

Are you guys on the same local network or in different locations? If you're in separate buildings, do you have port forwarding set up properly? Also, has she tried pinging the server addresses from her Terminal? This might give us a clue about her connection issues.
We are in different buildings, and I am indeed using port forwarding. We haven't checked the ping yet, but that's on the list. Generally, her internet works well, so this is puzzling!
