I recently switched my internet service, getting rid of TV and phone options to snag a good deal on internet only. The new setup was supposed to be a breeze, but I hit a snag: my apartment has coax cables that come out of the walls rather than traditional outlets.
I plugged the modem into a power source and connected the new coax cable into the splitter that was previously used for my old modem and router. However, when I tried to self-install, it said there was no connection. After a lot of trial and error, including trying various configurations and finally realizing I could connect the old coax directly to the modem, I still ended up with no signal.
I've also tried a female-to-female adapter and switched cables multiple times without any luck. The coax cables look pretty old too, but they worked with Verizon just fine. I'm at a loss as to why they aren't cooperating with my new Spectrum modem. Any advice on what to check or try next? I'm open to crawling around and trying things myself, but I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed. Thanks for reading my long-winded tale!

Just to add onto that, it’s common for residential coax runs to be tied to specific providers. If Spectrum is taking over, and the previous setup was with Verizon, they likely need to switch or activate a line at the service point. Unless you’ve got a tech-savvy friend who can help, it’s better to request a technician. Don’t stress about having tech come over; they deal with this sort of thing all the time!
I noticed you switched from Verizon to Spectrum, which could be a big part of your issue. The coax you were using might only work with one specific service provider. Have you checked if Spectrum needs a dedicated line from the outside to your apartment? You might need a technician to handle this, especially since they can connect the proper line for you without tearing up your walls. Usually, it’s just a small hole if they need to run new wiring. Hang in there!
Definitely reach out to them! The last thing you want is to be stuck without internet longer than necessary.

Thanks for your input! I wasn’t aware there might be an external connection issue. It does help to know it might not involve major construction. I may have to face the music and call Spectrum.
