I just got a new laptop and I'm having a really frustrating time trying to log into my Microsoft account. Every time I attempt to sign in, I get a message saying 'something went wrong'. It's particularly annoying because I can log into Office on my phone without any issues. On my laptop, after just one attempt, it tells me 'too many tries'—which doesn't make sense since it was my first try! I've contacted Microsoft's customer support multiple times, but I can't get through. I've also reached out to three different IT professionals, including those linked to my university and my parents' workplaces, but no one seems to have a solution. I really need Excel and Word for my university work. What can I do?

Try taking a break from logging in for a couple of hours, like 2-3, or even waiting until tomorrow. Sometimes the issue can be on Microsoft's end. If that doesn't help, definitely reach out to Microsoft Support directly, as they're usually your best bet for account access problems.
Honestly, if it's been a hassle, you might want to try ditching Windows altogether. I had a similar problem with Windows 11 until I switched to a local account. If you can, get someone to install Linux Mint with LibreOffice on there. It's free and should cover your needs for Word and Excel documents just fine.
Is it your personal Microsoft account or a school account? And is there more to the error message than just 'something went wrong'? This might help in figuring out what's going on.
It’s a personal Microsoft account, and unfortunately, that's all it says.
Have you considered reinstalling Windows? That might help clear out any issues. Also, did you check with the store where you bought the laptop? They might have some insights.
Yup, I already contacted them, and I've tried that too.
This has been going on for 3 days; I don’t think that’s the issue.
