Trouble Mounting My External HDD on Linux

I'm having issues trying to mount my external HDD on Linux. No matter which device I use, I keep getting an error that says, "unknown problem while mounting dev/sdc1." I've already tested the HDD in a different SATA case (a Toshiba one), and it works fine. The real issue seems to lie with the Chinese-brand SATA case I'm using. I even tried putting the working HDD into that case, but it still won't mount. I'm really worried because I have a lot of important files stored on that drive!

It sounds like the issue is likely with that Chinese SATA case. If you've confirmed the HDD itself works in other enclosures, switching to a different case might be your best bet. It’s a bummer, but these cheap cases often have compatibility issues with Linux due to weird firmware or drivers. It might be worth convincing your friend to look for a cheaper alternative or borrow a case for the time being.

I get your concern about those important files! Have you thought about backing them up first? It could be just a matter of that enclosure being incompatible with Linux. If it works on Windows, maybe you could use a different PC to transfer your files to a reliable case.
