I have a 3.5 Gbps download speed plan, but I'm using a powerline adapter that's supposed to provide up to 1 Gbps, and I'm only getting 1.5 Mbps! I'm trying to connect my computer to Ethernet, but there's no port available in my basement. I thought this setup would work, but these speeds are frustratingly low. Any advice on how to solve this?

Powerline adapters rely heavily on the electrical wiring in your house, so their performance can be pretty unpredictable. Sometimes they work well, and other times they don't. If you're looking for a more reliable solution, I suggest considering a mesh router system with nodes. For example, options like Eero or Netgear Orbi could be a good bet, and you can run an Ethernet cable from one of the mesh nodes to your PC. That should give you much better speeds!

Would you recommend that over having an Ethernet port installed near my PC?
