Trouble with Keyboard Shortcuts on Linux Mint

I just installed Linux Mint 22.1 XFCE and am really enjoying the performance compared to my old system. However, I'm having trouble getting my keyboard shortcuts to work, specifically the volume and brightness keys on my laptop. I thought it might be a driver issue, but the Driver Manager indicated that my drivers are up to date. Also, my trackpad doesn't work well with gestures. Any tips on how to troubleshoot or fix these issues?

Make sure your system recognizes your hardware correctly. You might want to check if your laptop's keyboard layout is set correctly in the settings. If it doesn't register those specific keys, it might just not have the right configurations for your hardware.

Have you tried checking the keyboard shortcuts settings? Go to the keyboard settings and see if you can set the shortcuts manually. Sometimes it helps to ensure the right keyboard layout is selected too, which can affect how the shortcuts function.

When using XFCE, you can find a volume icon in the bottom right corner. Right-click it, go to Properties, and make sure the keyboard shortcuts option is checked. If that’s set correctly but the keys aren’t working, it could be that your laptop's keyboard isn’t recognized properly in Mint.
