Hey everyone, I just got home after a storm and noticed that one room has no power. I checked the breaker and when I try to turn it back on, it trips immediately. I unplugged my PC, and the breaker works fine after that. I tested a couple of outlets on different breakers, but the same thing happens: the breaker trips after I plug in the PC, even without turning it on. So, I'm wondering how likely it is that my power supply unit (PSU) is dead, and what are the chances that all the other components are okay? Just to mention, my PSU is an Asrock 1000W SL and it's only about 8 months old.

First off, try using a different power cord for your PC. It could be that the cord itself is causing the short. Also, check if there’s a voltage selector switch on the PSU and make sure it hasn't accidentally switched to the wrong position.
Given the storm, it's possible that your PSU faced a power surge, either while it was on or just after the power outage. I recommend sending the PSU in for warranty since it’s relatively new. Let’s hope it’s just the PSU that’s damaged and not other components. If you're tight on cash, consider getting a surge protector; something like an APC system is a solid choice.

Yeah, I figured that might be the case. What do you think the odds are that other parts of the PC got fried too?
