Trouble with USB Ports on My Laptop

I've been having issues with my laptop's USB ports. About six months ago, my partner's laptop had a weird problem where the back USB port would make the sounds for connecting and disconnecting devices non-stop. The front port worked fine. I managed to fix it back then, but I can't remember how—I think it had something to do with device manager refreshing a lot.

Now, it's my laptop that's acting up, and neither of the USB ports are working at all! They don't even provide power to devices, let alone recognize them. I've tried various troubleshooting steps I found online and talked to some knowledgeable friends, but nothing has worked so far.

I might have accidentally messed something up, but I honestly have no clue what I did. Any advice would be really appreciated!

It sounds frustrating! Have you checked if the ports are actually getting power? If they’re not, that might be a hardware issue. Also, resetting the device manager settings could help. Just a thought! Good luck!

First off, make sure your laptop is fully updated—check for any pending updates. Dust can also cause problems, so try cleaning out the USB ports gently. You should also watch for any notifications that pop up when you plug in a device. Sometimes, ports can wear out if they've been used a lot with various devices and their different software.

If the device you had trouble with before is the same one, consider that the problem might be with the connecting cable as well.
