Upgrading for Smoother 4K Video Editing: Tips Needed

Hey everyone! I'm a wedding videographer and currently stuck with a really old Z370 setup for my editing work. Right now, I'm running on a GTX 1060 Ti paired with an i7-8700K. While editing 4K footage, things tend to lag quite a bit, and I'm looking for ways to improve the performance. I'm thinking about picking up a used 3060 Ti to alleviate some of the choppiness in Premiere. But here's the kicker: do you think my processor is the real bottleneck here? If so, would upgrading to an i9-9900 make a difference? I'm not looking for super high-end performance, just hoping to reduce those annoying frame freezes. What do you all think?

Before you jump on a new GPU, have you checked if you’re maxing out your VRAM during editing? You can do this using task manager. A 3060 with 12GB of VRAM might actually suit your needs better. Regarding the CPU upgrade, I wouldn't bother unless you can score a 9900 for a bargain price like around $100. Ultimately, it might be wiser to wait and switch to a newer platform down the line instead.

Is there an alternative to task manager for monitoring VRAM while editing? It's a bit inconvenient to use.
