Upgrading from a 3090 to a 5080 – Do I Need New Cables?

Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my graphics card from a 3090 Founders Edition to a 5080 Founders Edition, and I have some questions about the power cables. Currently, my 3090 is connected to a Corsair RM850x PSU that's a bit older (ATX 2.4). It's using a cable configuration of two 8-pin connections from the PSU to a 12-pin connector for the 3090. I've been using this setup without any issues since 2020. However, the connector on the 12-pin doesn't include the additional 4 pins you'll find on a 12vhpwr or 12v2x6 cable. I'm wondering if I can just continue using the same cable for the 5080. Also, I'm curious if my ATX 2.4 PSU will still be sufficient for this new card. Thanks in advance for your help!

Your current setup won't work with the 5080 since you'll need a different adapter that requires three 8-pin PCIe connectors. The good news is that your PSU should still be perfectly fine for this upgrade.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll just need to pick up an extra 8-pin cable since it looks like I only have two available.
