Upgrading from an Old 1060: What GPU Should I Get for Under $500?

Hey folks! I recently upgraded my aging PC setup to a Ryzen 7 7800X3D with a 1TB SSD and 32GB of RAM, but I never switched out my old GPU, a 1060. I've mainly been an MMO player, so my gaming needs were pretty CPU-focused before. Now I'm looking to enhance my experience for casual gaming on a 65" 4K 120Hz Samsung TV, using a controller or keyboard & mouse, and possibly a steering wheel for racing sims. I'm aiming for beautiful graphics at high settings, particularly since I've never played above 1080p before. I'm considering the 9060XT for around $380, but I'd love your thoughts on whether I should wait for Black Friday deals or grab it now. What do you think? Should I also consider GPUs beyond the 500$ mark if the upgrade is worth it? Thanks!

Definitely check out the 9060XT, but if you can find a used 4070 or even a 7800XT, those could be great alternatives. I heard some chatter about people getting their hands on 7900GREs too. Keep an eye on price comparisons, especially since the 5070 is pushing $550, you might want to weigh that option against the 9060 and see if it's worth stretching your budget!

I hear you! I'd need to see a huge upgrade difference from the 9060 to the 5070 to justify the extra cash. Thanks for the heads up!

You're on the right track with the 9060XT for $380, it's a solid pick for your needs. If you're open to a bit more, consider the 5060 Ti at around $480, which could give you some extra performance. Both of these options should handle your gaming at high settings nicely!
