Upgrading from Ryzen 5600X to 7800X3D: Is It Worth It?

I'm thinking about upgrading my Ryzen 5600X to a 7800X3D while keeping my RTX 3070 for now since I missed the recent sales. My main concerns are how long the 7800X3D will remain relevant for future gaming and how much the 3070 might bottleneck its performance. Also, would it be a better option to go for the 9800X3D instead? My friend upgraded to the 7800X3D and claimed he saw an 80 fps increase in The Final during mid-fights, which has got me convinced. I usually game at 1920x1080. What do you all think?

The 7800X3D performs really well for gaming! I have it paired with a 5070 and it handles everything smoothly, even in VR games like Hogwarts Legacy. If you're into AI or editing, maybe consider an AMD 9, but for just gaming, the 7800X3D is a solid choice without the extra cost. It should last you well!

Thanks for the input! I mainly game, so that reassures me.

Honestly, if you're worried about the RTX 3070 bottlenecking the Ryzen 7800X3D, going for an even stronger CPU like the 9800X3D might not be the best move. Just remember, you'll have to get a new motherboard and RAM too if you do that!

If you can find a 5700X3D or 5800X3D, those could be great options too! They should hold up for at least 5 years. Just keep in mind you can't use the 7800X3D or 9800X3D with the same motherboard as your 5600X!

Good point! I'll explore those options.

You'll need to upgrade to a newer motherboard and DDR5 RAM since the 7800X3D is not compatible with your current setup. Just a heads up!

Upgrading means you'll definitely need the AM5 platform with a new motherboard, CPU, and DDR5 RAM. The investment in the 7800X3D will give you an amazing performance boost, especially at 1080p. However, whether the GPU or CPU bottlenecks will depend on the game. For esports settings, the CPU matters more, and you could easily hit 240+ fps with the right setup!
