Upgrading My 10-Year-Old Gaming PC: Need Some Advice!

Hey there! I'm looking to upgrade my old gaming PC that I built back in 2016. Here are the current specs:

- **Motherboard**: MSI Z170-A PRO (MS-7971)
- **CPU**: Intel i7-6700K @ 4.00GHz
- **GPU**: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (6GB VRAM)
- **RAM**: 4x8 GB DDR4-2998 CORSAIR
- **Cooler**: Alpenföhn Ben Nevis (not sure which version)

I also need a new case and power supply, but I'll figure those out later. For the motherboard, I really need it to have built-in Wi-Fi since I can't run an Ethernet cable to my router. Here's my current PC Part Picker list: [this](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/TFhCgn). I'm open to any suggestions or corrections you might have. Thanks a ton in advance!

I’d recommend going for a B850 Wi-Fi 7 board—just pick one that looks good to you!

For the power supply, get at least 750W, but if you want to be safe for future use, 850W or even 1000W is smart. Make sure to choose an M.2 NVME for storage and aim for 2x16GB at 6000MHz CL30 RAM (again, go for the one with good reviews). Ensure your case and fans fit your budget but pick ones that look nice!

I've heard 750W is usually enough, but I want this build to last a while before needing another upgrade. I’ll stick with my current storage setup for now but will consider your suggestions later!

I see you’re aiming for a combination like 9800x3d/RX9070XT. I built a similar setup just last week; you can check out my list here: https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/list/kV2MrM. Feel free to ask me about my choices if you need any help!

You’ve probably thought of this, but just to remind you: you’ll need to replace your RAM too. You could sell your old PC for a few hundred bucks, but keep in mind you’ll need a new case and cooling fans with the whole upgrade. Think about whether you want to sell just parts or the entire setup.

As for motherboards, the differences in B650, B850, and X870 chipsets don’t matter too much unless you’re really into specifics. Here’s the priority list I use:

1. **Compatibility**: Check socket type, max memory, and speed support.
2. **IO Ports**: How many USB ports do you need? Any special audio jacks?
3. **PCIe lanes**: Important if you have cards that need slots. Not a big deal if you don’t.
4. **USB headers**: Make sure they match your case connectors.
5. **Fan headers**: A cheap fan controller can solve issues here.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the detailed list! I appreciate the tips about the CPU and RAM; I was wondering how critical that was. The PCIe lanes info is really helpful too!
