Upgrading My Motherboard: What Do I Need to Know?

I'm switching from a Gigabyte B450M DS3H to an MSI B850-GAMING-PLUS-WIFI6E motherboard, and I want to use my existing SSD and HDD from my old system with Windows 11. I've come across varying advice about whether I need to uninstall motherboard drivers or if a fresh Windows installation is required. I'm considering that it might be simplest to wipe the drives completely, but I'd prefer to avoid that if possible. Can I just connect my drives as they are and use a boot drive to reinstall Windows, wiping the drives only if it becomes necessary? Any advice would be appreciated!

Just a heads up, you will need new RAM for your new motherboard. Also, don’t forget to use DDU to uninstall the old GPU drivers before installing the latest ones for your setup. As long as your BIOS settings for the SSD are fine, the transition should be smooth.

You should be good to go! Just install your SSD in the new setup, and Windows should boot without a hitch. In the past, things were a bit trickier, but Windows 11 is way better at handling these changes. The chipset drivers for AMD cover both your old and new motherboards, so you won’t have to worry about installing those. I'd recommend booting with just the SSD first, and then you can add the HDD afterward if you want, but you can connect both at once without issues.
