Upgrading My PC and Switching to Windows 11 – Need Some Help!

Hey everyone! I'm looking to upgrade my custom-built PC from a few years back so I can install Windows 11. I found out that my motherboard doesn't support TPM, which means I either need to buy a TPM module or a new motherboard. Since my parts are getting pretty old (almost 9 years), I decided to do a full upgrade. A friend gifted me a GTX 3050, so I've picked up a new motherboard, CPU, and RAM to complete the upgrade.

However, I have a couple of questions before I dive in. First, should I transfer my Windows license before upgrading? Can I install Windows 11 immediately after I set up the new hardware, or do I need to do it after transferring?

Also, besides backing up my important files and preparing a USB for installation media, is there anything else I should do to make the transition smoother? I plan to keep my SSD/HDD hybrid drive, but I've heard there can be issues during this kind of upgrade. Are there any specific formatting steps I should take?

For context, I'm upgrading from an Intel i7-4790K @ 4 GHz to an AMD Ryzen 9800X3D @ 5.2 GHz and switching from an ASRock Z97 Extreme4 to an MSI MAG B850 Tomahawk MAX Wifi. I feel like I'm overthinking this, but I'd like to be prepared. Thanks for any advice!

Are you aiming for a clean install, or do you want to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11 without wiping your drive? And by the way, do you have your Windows 10 license key handy?

It should be pretty straightforward! Just log in to Windows with your registered email since the license is typically tied to that. I had a similar experience when I switched laptops. I bought a new one and installed Windows 10, and after logging in, everything worked fine for me!

Awesome! I was worried that switching from Windows 10 to 11 might get complicated after changing all the parts.

Man, a 9800X3D paired with a GTX 3050 is a bit of an odd match! It's like using a monster truck to spread butter—a serious bottleneck situation! Make sure you're also getting 2x16GB DDR5 RAM; your old RAM won't work with this setup.

I got the GPU for free and just wanted to upgrade the oldest parts for now. But I did grab 2 sticks of 32GB Crucial DDR5 RAM, so I'm good there!
