Hey everyone! I'm in the process of upgrading my PC so it can support Windows 11 and a new graphics card. I've picked out a Sapphire PULSE RX 8070XT 16 GB for the GPU but I'm still deciding on a new CPU. My goal is to play current games at 1440p with smooth frame rates while keeping the visuals looking great (think along the lines of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and War Thunder). Here's what I currently have:
- GPU: Asus RTX 2070 OC 8 GB
- CPU: Intel i7-7700K
- Cooler: CRYORIG H7 49 CFM
- Mobo: Asus TUF Z270 MARK 1 ATX LGA1151
- Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16 GB RAM | Micron 2TB SSD
- Power Supply: EVGA SuperNOVA 650W 80+ Gold
- Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400 ATX Mid Tower
I have a few questions:
1. Do I need a bigger case for the new parts?
2. Can I continue using my current CPU cooler for the new CPU?
3. What motherboards and CPUs would you recommend?
I can share a link to my PCPartPicker list if that helps. Thanks a lot in advance!

I think you should be fine with your current case unless you switch to a super massive GPU or add more cooling options. Just be sure to check the dimensions of the new GPU beforehand. And yes, you can use your cooler for certain CPUs, but it's best to verify compatibility to ensure optimal cooling performance!
First off, what's your budget for the upgrade? That'll help narrow down your choices for the CPU and motherboard. Also, don't forget to drop your PCPartPicker link so we can check your current build.
Your setup looks awesome, but you might need a better cooler for the new CPU if you're going with something like an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D. I recommend checking out the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE, it's a solid choice at a good price. For the motherboard, a Gigabyte B850 GAMING X would be a great fit. You’re gonna love how your games will run with those upgrades!
I just added the link! My budget is max $1,500, but I’d prefer to keep it around $1,200. That's including the GPU, by the way.
