Upgrading RAM Causing Boot Issues—What Should I Do?

Hey everyone! I'm having a bit of trouble over here. I originally had 16GB of RAM (2x8GB) and decided to upgrade to 32GB by purchasing another 8GB stick of the same model. However, when I inserted the new RAM, my PC wouldn't boot up. After that, I tried putting the original RAM back in, but it still wouldn't start. Any advice on how to get my computer running again?

First things first, did you make sure the RAM is seated properly? Sometimes when installing, it might not click in all the way. Also, try using the same RAM slots you had before, as changing slots can sometimes cause issues.

You might want to check if your RAM is running in single-channel or dual-channel mode. If your motherboard has four slots, typically slots 1 & 3 or 2 & 4 work for dual-channel. Also, if your RAM is ECC (Error Correction Code), make sure everything is compatible. Removing the CMOS battery can help reset the BIOS if it’s having trouble recognizing the new stick.

It’s possible that the new RAM is faulty. If you can, test the new stick in a different system to see if it works. That might help narrow down the issue!

Thanks for the tip! I'll check it out and see if it works in another machine.
