I'm looking for ways to isolate certain programs on Windows 11 so they don't run in the background. I have peripherals, like an RGB control software for my keyboard and mouse, and I only change their settings once every few months. I carefully choose hardware with onboard memory to avoid needing background applications, but I'm still having issues, especially with software like iCue that runs even when I tell it not to start with Windows. I've heard about Windows Sandbox, but I don't want to go through the reinstallation hassle every time I need to adjust settings. Is there a better solution?

With modern operating systems, quite a few programs run in the background, and they’re essential for the system to function properly. If you want to disable certain background services, you can go to your terminal and type `services.msc`, and from there you can disable any services you don’t want. Just be sure you know what each service does before shutting it down.
I totally get where you're coming from! I've had to manually disable programs each time, and it's a pain. Have you looked into isolating the programs during installation? Some setups allow you to change their default settings to avoid running at startup. It might take some trial and error, but it could save you time in the long run.
Unfortunately, it’s practically impossible to stop applications from running in the background altogether, as that’s how multi-tasking systems operate. However, you can quit applications to prevent them from running and remove them from the startup list. Just remember that if specific features are tied to these services, they might not work if you disable them.
