I'm dealing with a frustrating situation at an Apple Store in Silver Spring, MD. I wanted to buy a MacBook Neo but the store didn't have one available, so the agent suggested I purchase an Apple Gift Card to use at another location. During this process, the agent took my phone and redeemed the gift card directly into my Apple account without my prior knowledge that this could lock the card in and make it non-refundable. Now, since the purchase didn't go through, I'm left with a load of credit on my account that I can't even use for its intended purpose. I tried asking the store manager for a refund, but they insisted it's "final" once redeemed. I've talked to several representatives and still no luck. I'm looking for advice on how to escalate this issue—maybe it's something I can pursue legally under Maryland's consumer protection laws? Should I contact the Attorney General or is there a specific department for gift card issues? Any insights or similar experiences would really help!

I had a similar issue a couple of years ago where I accidentally redeemed a gift card. I called Apple Support, and they were able to reverse the redemption for me. Just make sure you explain everything clearly to them—it might take some persistence!
You might want to consider reaching out to the Maryland Attorney General, although I’d try Apple Support more aggressively first. They’re the only ones who can likely do anything about the redemption. Good luck!
I’ve been in a similar situation before. Unfortunately, store policies often mean they can’t process refunds for redeemed gift cards. Your best bet is to call Apple Support directly. They have more tools to help with cases like yours, and don’t forget: escalate your call to a supervisor if the first person can’t help.
That definitely sounds frustrating. Just keep pushing to get a direct answer from them. It’s your money after all!
Gotta be careful with gift cards, they can really tie you up if you're not aware of the policies. I’d recommend checking if your balance can be used through the Apple Store app for purchases instead. At least that could alleviate some of the frustration!
I didn't even think of that! I'll check the app out.

Thanks for the tip! I’ll give support another shot.
