What are the best options for backing up SharePoint in a small business?

Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle trying to help out a friend who runs a small company (5 people, 7 M365 licenses) with their data backup needs. They currently have their SharePoint sites backed up using Veeam Community Edition to a small on-site server. They're looking to move away from that server dependency and want to find a cloud-based backup solution instead. While they already have Wasabi for storage, they need something cheaper than N-Able Cove that specifically caters to SharePoint backups, as users' OneDrive and Teams data isn't a priority. Since I'm in South Africa, I suspect that pricing could be a bit steep compared to what's common in the US or EU. I was also considering hooking up a Synology NAS to Wasabi for cloud storage, but I'm not sure if that's feasible. Any advice or recommendations would really help! Thanks in advance!

I’d recommend checking out afi.ai; we use them and it’s been great. Just double-check if there’s a minimum number of licenses required, though!

Using a Synology NAS is definitely a solid approach! They have great software called Active Backup for Microsoft 365 that allows you to back up selectively (like just SharePoint). You can also integrate the NAS with any cloud provider you like later on for added redundancy. Azure Storage with local redundancy might be a cost-effective option, too!

Consider Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud! It ticks all the boxes for M365 backup and can integrate with Synology for backups to Wasabi. Plus, they have data centers in Johannesburg, so it might suit your needs better. Check their documentation for info on pricing and setup!

Before you commit, reach out to third-party backup vendors and clarify a few things: Do you have a pricing model for just SharePoint backups instead of per user? What’s your pricing for specific storage amounts? Also, see if they can integrate directly with Wasabi for backups.

Microsoft now has a built-in backup solution that might fit your needs. The cool part is you only pay for the storage you use; might be worth a look!
